CEE Spring 2019 — international article contest — looking for local coordinatorKeisti

Wikimedia CEE Spring 2019 is annual article writing contests which will happen for the 5th time this year. International team is looking for a local coordinator from each country in Central and Eastern Europe and we need one from Lithuania. Local coordinator is responsible for:

  • Creating article list about Lithuania (can be reused form last year; recommendation: 100 topics which have decent article in English Wikipedia, do not need to be most important topics about Lithuania)
  • Creating local information page about contest
  • Promoting contest (site notice, social media, talk page messages,...)
  • (Optional) evaluate results and decide on winners in several categories. International team will provide automatic statistics if you create a talk page template and add to all new articles. You can get prize money for winners (up to 400 EUR) from the international team.

If you are interested, sign up as local coordinator on this page. --Papuass (aptarimas) 16:49, 10 kovo 2019 (EET)

@Zygimantus:, @Hugo.arg: as past organizers, are you willing to do it again? @Vogone:, how about you? --Papuass (aptarimas) 16:49, 10 kovo 2019 (EET)
@Papuass: Unfortunately, I am too much involved in real life until approximately mid-April for taking on any additional resposibilities, and unlikely to participate here due to the reasons outlined by Hugo.arg (just half-native Lithuanian skills which would require someone to copyedit my contributions, though I am working on improving it :-)). However, if some organisational help is needed after mid-April, I will be available. --Vogone (aptarimas) 02:44, 17 kovo 2019 (EET)
@Vogone: maybe you would consider helping in contest evaluation phase? That would involve naming winners and distributing the prizes (these can be online gift cards). --Papuass (aptarimas) 15:24, 18 kovo 2019 (EET)

I could be the coordinator but do not promise to be an active colaborator (spring is the worst time for such contests...). The project wasn't very successful in the past as it mainly atracts only these users who have serious problems with translation and spelling... Hugo.arg (aptarimas) 17:19, 10 kovo 2019 (EET)

Would you sign up here and create Lithuanian list here? (last years list). I would not worry about spring being not good time, you can never fully understand why people start contributing. It has been a steady increase each year on Latvian Wikipedia. --Papuass (aptarimas) 12:36, 13 kovo 2019 (EET)
@Hugo.arg: I copied list from last year. See if you can replace more covered topics with new ones. --Papuass (aptarimas) 10:30, 18 kovo 2019 (EET)
@Papuass: Unfortunately, no, I will be busy this time. @Hugo.arg: please don't judge people, because you have made also a spelling mistake.--Zygimantus (aptarimas) 23:48, 18 kovo 2019 (EET)
Sakyčiau SQORP, gerokai pasistūmėjo.--Vaidila (aptarimas) 14:38, 9 balandžio 2019 (EEST)
Reikėtų konkursą susieti su sav. iniciatyva bent dviems savaitėms, bus daugiau aktyvių naudotojų. Pats projektas vertas dėmesio, dėl to galėčiau labiau prisidėti, nors šiuo metu daugiausiai dirbu prie Sav. Iniciatyvos. --SQORP (aptarimas) 14:45, 9 balandžio 2019 (EEST)

IMPORTANT: Admin activity reviewKeisti

Hello. A policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc. ) was adopted by global community consensus in 2013. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on all Wikimedia Foundation wikis with no inactivity policy. To the best of our knowledge, your wiki does not have a formal process for removing "advanced rights" from inactive accounts. This means that the stewards will take care of this according to the admin activity review.

We have determined that the following users meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for more than 2 years):

  1. Qwarc (administrator)

These users will receive a notification soon, asking them to start a community discussion if they want to retain some or all of their rights. If the users do not respond, then their advanced rights will be removed by the stewards.

However, if you as a community would like to create your own activity review process superseding the global one, want to make another decision about these inactive rights holders, or already have a policy that we missed, then please notify the stewards on Meta-Wiki so that we know not to proceed with the rights review on your wiki. Thanks, Einsbor (aptarimas) 10:36, 1 balandžio 2019 (EEST)

Today I removed admin status from the said user. Einsbor (aptarimas) 16:52, 15 balandžio 2019 (EEST)

CEEM 2019 in Belgrade, SerbiaKeisti

Wikimedia CEE meeting 2019

Hello, dear Lithuanian Wikipedia community!

I hope this message finds you well.

We were wondering if Lithuanian Wikipedians have chosen their representatives for the Central and Eastern European Meeting 2019, which will happen in October in Belgrade, Serbia.

The registration deadline is July 20, 2019, 23:59:59 (CEST). We have less than a week left. The registration link is here. I'm hoping that the discussions within your community about who the grant-funded delegates would be have already happened, and that people just need to register. :)

In other news, you might have heard that the submission deadline has been moved to August 10, which means that you have more than a month to come up with session proposals. Maybe this would be a good time to remind everyone that we want this and all other CEE events to be great learning experiences, so if you want to present achievements from your community, try to think of

  • a good format for doing that (maybe good ol' presentation is the way to go, but maybe you can structure it as a panel or a workshop or roundtable discussion)
  • a nice way to show people how your experience could be useful in their contexts, not just yours

We do have a few submissions already, but we need more, so that we can create a really good program for the conference. Even though the summer has begun, let's really try to make some creative and useful submissions, in order to fulfill the mission from the conference slogan: Broaden Your Capacity! :) You can find the instructions on how to submit a session here.

I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon! Please do not hesitate to ask me about any concerns you might have.

Update on the consultation about office actionsKeisti

Hello all,

Last month, the Wikimedia Foundation's Trust & Safety team announced a future consultation about partial and/or temporary office actions. We want to let you know that the draft version of this consultation has now been posted on Meta.

This is a draft. It is not intended to be the consultation itself, which will be posted on Meta likely in early September. Please do not treat this draft as a consultation. Instead, we ask your assistance in forming the final language for the consultation.

For that end, we would like your input over the next couple of weeks about what questions the consultation should ask about partial and temporary Foundation office action bans and how it should be formatted. Please post it on the draft talk page. Our goal is to provide space for the community to discuss all the aspects of these office actions that need to be discussed, and we want to ensure with your feedback that the consultation is presented in the best way to encourage frank and constructive conversation.

Please visit the consultation draft on Meta-wiki and leave your comments on the draft’s talk page about what the consultation should look like and what questions it should ask.

Thank you for your input! -- The Trust & Safety team 11:03, 16 rugpjūčio 2019 (EEST)

New tools and IP maskingKeisti

17:18, 21 rugpjūčio 2019 (EEST)

I've read the FAQ and it looks like you have no idea how exactly are you going to implement it, and most importantly - how exactly are you going to deal with the bazillion problems it's gonna create when fighting vandalism, and last but not least why would we even need it. Editors can already protect their privacy (IP) by just registering with a user name, extremely fast and simple process. It's just ridiculous. I'm strongly against it as I also indicated in your voting page, please stop this nonsense, nobody ever asked for it and nobody needs it. --Nomad (aptarimas) 20:02, 5 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)

Wikimedia Northern Europe Meeting 2019 — Tartu — You are invitedKeisti

Place: Tartu, Estonia, date: 4–6 October 2019, more info at Wikimedia Northern Europe Meeting 2019.

You (Lithuanian community) are invited to join other Northern European wikipedians for a weekend event in Tartu. Costs can be covered for up to 5 people.

Contact Ivo Kruusamägi if you have questions. --Papuass (aptarimas) 11:21, 4 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)

Last time, when I asked Lithuanian wikipedians to a meetup in here, I got blocked. So let us see how that goes.
Anyway, if you are interested to send some people, then I'd need a list of them by the beginning of next week. And if you intend to send no-one, then I'd appreciate when you would also say so to make things clear.
As Lavians are coming, then it might also be possible to join with them (they might be coming with a car from Riga and likely have some vacant places there). Kruusamägi (aptarimas) 10:59, 5 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)
Lithuanian Wikipedia has no formal structure, so there is no way somebody could be "sent". Likewise nobody will tell you about intentions to send no-one. And, please, don't repeat mistakes from the previous year as it might end in the same way.--Dirgela (aptarimas) 18:35, 5 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)
Community vote or just volunteering here with no objections might be enough. No need to formalize your community, if you do not want it. --Papuass (aptarimas) 22:45, 5 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)
Most likely Latvians will go from Riga with 5 of 7 seats filled in car, you are welcome to join. --Papuass (aptarimas) 22:47, 5 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)
I just want to stress that even for established chapters we expect to see 2-3 newcomers with new ideas to come to Nordic meeting, so selection or motivation doesn't have to be too official or controlled. Everybody who is active in Lithuanian Wiki projects and caring for the movement and cooperation is welcome. Official selection and "sending representatives" will be relevant if there is more than five intending to participate, or maybe, if all of people coming from Lithuania are newcomers or all of them old-timers. Then we might kindly ask you to decide among yourselves, who you will "send". Besides that, we will soon have program ready and you can also jump into Slack to ask questions live! --Märt Põder (aptarimas) 21:23, 11 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)
It would be nice to see any of you participating with first-hand knowledge of Lithuanian community... There's still time to plan the trip and we sincerely welcome whoever is willing to invest their time and dedication for the meeting! --Märt Põder (aptarimas) 14:22, 30 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)
Thank you for the invitation, I would be happy to come, but I have planed the trip to Belgrade already and two events are too much for me in a short time. Lithuanian wikipedia users are traditionally not very active in events both locally and abroad.--Dirgela (aptarimas) 20:11, 30 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)
We can discuss this in Belgrade :-) Becoming more active can be incremental with small steps. --Papuass (aptarimas) 11:08, 1 spalio 2019 (EEST)

Maskvos Kristaus Gelbėtojo cerkvė/katedra/soboras?Keisti

Sveiki. Kaip reiktų versti ru:Храм_Христа_Спасителя? Mačiau variantus „cerkvė“, „katedra“ bei „soboras“. Taip pat mačiau „Išgelbėtojo“ vietoje „Gelbėtojo“. Būtų gerai suvienodinti. Powermelon (aptarimas) 08:27, 18 rugsėjo 2019 (EEST)

Čia neeilinė cerkvė, nes tarnauja, kaip nastojatel, pats Patriarchas Kirilas. Rusų straipsnyje šis храм įvardijamas кафедральный собор (katedros soboras).
