Florens mokėsi gerai, bet dažnai pakliūdavo į bėdą, nes chore dainuodavo per garsiai ar dainuodavo ne tam skirtose vietose. Nepaisat pomėgio literatūrai, Florens buvo diagnozuota nežymi [[disleksija]]. Velš Kembervelo menų koledže, bet iš jo išėjo, kad atsidėtų muzikai.
Kadangi grupę sudarė ''Florence Welch'' ir „Isabella Machine“, ji vadinosi „Florence Robot/Isa Machine“. Paskui pavadinimas buvo sutrumpintas iki „Florence and the Machine“.
Florence and the Machine debiutinis albumas Lungs buvo išleistas [[2009]] m. [[liepos 6]] d. Jungtinėje karalystėje [[rugpjūčio 6]] d. jau buvo parduota 100 tūkst. jo kopijų. Albumas buvo išleistas JAV [[spalio 20]] d. Abejose šalyse jis pasiekė topų viršūnes.
